🎡 How Roulette Works
Roulette is a game of chance played on a spinning wheel divided into numbered pockets. Players place bets on where they think the ball will land. In American roulette, the wheel has 38 pockets: numbers 1–36, 0, and 00. The numbers 1–36 alternate between red and black, while 0 and 00 are green.
📊 Odds and House Edge
- Red/Black Bet: Pays 1:1. You win if the ball lands on a red or black number (depending on your choice), but lose if it lands on 0 or 00. This is the same for even/odd bets too.
Probability of winning: 18/38 ≈ 47.37% - Single Number Bet: Pays 35:1. You win if the ball lands exactly on your chosen number.
Probability of winning: 1/38 ≈ 2.63%
The house edge in American roulette is about 5.26% for most bets. This edge comes from the inclusion of 0 and 00, which are not red or black and do not count toward any even-money outside bets.
📌 Things to Note
- Each spin is independent—past spins do not affect future outcomes.
- Betting systems (like Martingale) don’t change the long-term odds.
- Over many trials, outcomes converge toward expected probabilities.
